Final Project – English 3210: Multi-Modal Composition Award Winner

Project Type

Photography

Date

December 2024

For my English 3210 final, we were challenged to design a research project centered around our personal interests. My professor, Dr. Fishman, encouraged me to reflect on how I identify as a writer and what kind of writing truly excites me—beyond the expectations I often feel as a PR major.

That led me back to a creative blog I wrote during a past internship, where I shared my own attitude toward Milwaukee and why others should consider working here. I decided to revisit and expand on that idea. This time, I chose to explore the perspectives of three adults currently living in Milwaukee, examining how their attitudes toward the city have evolved over time.

While I’ve always gravitated toward personal narratives—because writing from memory and detail feels natural to me—this project pushed me to write about others. I took it as my responsibility to not only bring their stories to life creatively, but also ensure that their voices remained authentic and true to their experiences. I incorporated insights from follow-up interviews and additional research to give readers deeper context.

The result was a magazine-style piece that wove together all three stories in a visually engaging format. I was honored when this project was selected for the 2025 Department of English Undergraduate Writing Awards, where it won Best Multi-Modal Composition.
